BALLSTON SPA POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Ballston Spa Police Department comprises of 4 full-time police officers plus the Police Chief. There are 16 officers total on staff, including part-time employees. The BSPD patrol area covers a 1.6 square mile radius for 5,470 residents, 287 businesses, and daily visitors/commuters as the village houses multiple main roadways that include NYS Routes 50 and 67.


Their primary activities are proactive patrol, including traffic enforcement, crowd control and community interactions, as well as reactive calls responding to 911 for motor vehicle crashes, unattended deaths and domestic disputes. The Police Department also frequently responds to calls related to substance abuse and other non-emergent complaints.


During the summer, the Police Department normally conducts crowd control at the fairgrounds, where events regularly convene 5,000 to 15,000 people. Police officers are typically deployed there at a ratio of 1 to every 500 event attendees.
